Cruz Beckham, the 20-year-old youngest son of football icon Sir David Beckham and fashion designer Victoria Beckham, has had his driving licence revoked following two separate speeding offences. The budding musician, who passed his driving test just over two years ago amid much celebration, now faces the prospect of returning to learner status under strict UK road rules for new drivers.
The revocation stems from Cruz accumulating six penalty points on his licence within the crucial two-year period after passing his test. In the UK, new drivers who reach or exceed six points during this probationary window have their licences automatically cancelled by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA). Each of Cruz's offences reportedly involved exceeding the speed limit in 20mph zones, which typically carry a minimum of three penalty points and a fine.
One incident occurred on September 2, when Cruz was caught travelling at 24mph in a 20mph area. At the time, he shared his frustration on Instagram, posting that he had "just got done for doing 24 in a 20" alongside a humorous quote from Wes Anderson's film *The Phoenician Scheme*: "Games gone. Myself I feel very safe." The second speeding ticket pushed him over the threshold, triggering the automatic revocation.
Sources close to the family described Cruz as "gutted" and "infuriated" by the outcome, noting that minor excesses in increasingly common 20mph zones are easy traps for drivers. "It was a couple of speeding tickets which are so easy to come by these days with 20mph zones," one insider said. "It's infuriating but he seems to have accepted it and taken it on the chin." Despite the setback, Cruz is said to be handling the situation maturely.
To regain his full driving privileges, Cruz must reapply for a provisional licence, retake and pass both the theory and practical driving tests, and adhere to all learner driver restrictions in the meantime – including displaying L-plates and being supervised by a qualified driver.
The young Beckham is known as a car enthusiast, much like his father. He has been spotted behind the wheel of various vehicles, including a burgundy Land Rover (which he famously drove to McDonald's after passing his test), a classic 1980s Mercedes, and other luxury cars. He often shuttles between the family's West London home and their Cotswolds estate.
This isn't the first time the Beckham name has been linked to motoring mishaps. Sir David himself escaped a speeding prosecution in 2018 after being caught at 59mph in a 40mph zone while driving a loaned Bentley – a case dismissed on a technicality involving late paperwork.
Cruz's licence loss comes at a time when 20mph limits are expanding across the UK, particularly in residential areas and near schools, leading to a surge in enforcement. Recent figures show nearly 500,000 speeding tickets issued in such zones in 2024 alone, a two-thirds increase from the previous year.
While the revocation is a blow to the aspiring singer's independence, friends say he remains on good terms with his parents and is focused on his music career. For now, the open road will have to wait until he proves himself behind the wheel once more.
